A Brea man who was struck by a car as he chased a friend’s dog died Wednesday from massive injuries, and an Azusa woman was arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run driving.

Police Lt. John Rees said that at about 8:05 p.m. Tuesday, George Edward Morary, 25, chased the dog into Euclid Street north of Grace Avenue and was struck by a small pickup truck that left the scene.

The driver stopped about a block away to remove a broken windshield, but then drove off again, Rees said.

About 10 minutes later, a patrolman stopped a truck matching witnesses’ descriptions and arrested Elizabeth Alfaro, 21.

Alfaro was treated at a local hospital for a knee injury and then returned to the Brea City Jail, Rees said. Bail was set at $10,000.

Morary died at 7 a.m. at Whittier Presbyterian Hospital.

Police said they were continuing their investigation to attempt to determine whether Alfaro could have avoided hitting Morary, Rees said.

“In the vicinity that it occurred, there are two hills and perhaps . . . she wasn’t able to see him, given the features of the roadway,” Rees said. “He did go out into the path of her car to capture this dog.”
