Donald C. Brodie, a former professor of medicine and pharmacy at USC, has been given the 1986 Distinguished Educator Award from the American Assn. of Colleges of Pharmacy. Brodie, who lives in Pasadena, received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from USC and his doctorate from Purdue University in Indiana. Brodie retired last January.

Laura J. Steen of Claremont has been named director of annual giving at Scripps College in Claremont. Steen will oversee the Scripps Assn. of Families and raise funds for the school. She served as acting director in the job for one year.

Elvin Miali, formerly a captain in the San Gabriel Police Department, has been named chief of police for the Fountain Valley Police Department. Miali, who lives in Temple City, served on the San Gabriel Police Department for 19 years.

Dr. Richard B. Fink, a veterinarian at Washington Boulevard Animal Hospital in Whittier, has been elected president of the American Veterinary Medical Assn. Fink, a resident of Hacienda Heights, has served at the hospital for 34 years.

Charles R. Gray of Hacienda Heights has been reappointed to the Los Angeles County Delinquency and Crime Commission by Board of Supervisors Chairman Pete Schabarum. Gray is a real estate salesman.

Mary Ann Harvey of La Verne has been named assistant administrator for resident services at Brethren Hillcrest Homes in La Verne. Harvey previously served as director of community relations at Queen of the Valley Hospital in West Covina.

Marjorie H. Charlop, an assistant professor of psychology at Claremont McKenna College, has received a grant from the National Institutes of Health to conduct research on autistic children. Charlop, a licensed psychologist, received an undergraduate degree from UCLA and graduate and doctoral degrees from the Claremont Graduate School.

Carlos Venegas of Hacienda Heights has been reappointed to a two-year term on the Los Angeles County Veterans Advisory Commission by Board of Supervisors Chairman Pete Schabarum.

Tina L. Daniels has been elected president of the Historical Society of West Covina. George Strachan will serve as vice president.
