A federal grand jury has indicted Tim Clinton Williams, 45, of El Monte, a business agent of Teamsters Local 598, on three counts of filing false income tax returns for 1982, 1983 and 1984.

Leon W. Weidman, assistant U. S. attorney, said the indictment alleges that Williams understated his income by $9,500 in 1982, $23,121 in 1983 and $9,500 in 1984.

The charges arose from a joint investigation by the FBI and the Internal Revenue Service, Weidman said. The maximum penalty for each count is five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

Weidman said Williams also is awaiting trial in October on federal charges that he defrauded Local 598 and its members by accepting bribes from non-union trucking companies to help them obtain business.
