A motorist apparently angry at another driver for cutting him off in traffic jumped into the back of the second driver’s pickup truck Wednesday, smashed a window and allegedly tried to kill him, police said.

Juvenal Jaico, 25, of Sherman Oaks was arrested after his alleged victim managed to drive the pickup truck more than a mile to the North Hollywood Division police station with a rope around his neck and the suspect slashing at him with a broken piece of glass, Officer Jan Dunn said.

The victim, Eduardo Ventura, 40, of Los Angeles, was treated at the Medical Center of North Hollywood and released about four hours after the episode. He suffered multiple cuts and bruises to his head, neck and chest.

The incident apparently started on the Hollywood Freeway when Jaico got angry at Ventura, apparently for cutting in front of his car with the pickup, Dunn said.

Exits Freeway

Ventura got off the freeway at Magnolia Boulevard. Jaico followed him to a traffic light, then got out of his car and started yelling. As Ventura pulled away, Jaico jumped into the truck’s bed, Dunn said.

“He smashed the window, put a rope around the victim’s neck and tried to pull him out the window,” she said.

A man jogging along the road witnessed the incident and followed the truck.

Jaico allegedly took a piece of the broken glass and started slashing at Ventura from behind, Dunn said.

Ventura managed to keep driving for about a mile to the police station.

“How he did it without hitting anyone is amazing,” Dunn said.

When the truck pulled up at the police station, about five officers saw what was happening and rushed outside to arrest Jaico.

After taking statements from the suspect, the victim and the jogger, police booked Jaico on suspicion of attempted murder, Dunn said.
