Suspect Shot in Court by Father of Murder Victim Sues Him, S.F.
Accused killer Daniel David Morgan, who was shot in a courtroom here by the father of the girl that Morgan is charged with murdering, has filed suit against his assailant and the City of San Francisco.
Morgan suffered three bullet wounds when Jack Spiegelman of Los Angeles opened fire during an April 10 pretrial hearing at the Hall of Justice. Morgan, 39, is charged with the 1983 shooting death of 17-year-old Sarah Spiegelman in Golden Gate Park.
During the hearing, Spiegelman stood up in the spectator section, pulled a .38-caliber revolver and fired four shots. Morgan may have suffered permanent damage to his hand as a result.
Morgan has asked for unspecified damages for the physical and mental pain and suffering caused by the shooting. The lawsuit, which was filed Friday in San Francisco Superior Court, also charged Spiegelman with assault and battery and the city and its employees with negligence for not providing adequate courtroom security.
