A funeral limousine hired today for the grieving family of retired Texas poultry worker Eddie Cooks was not big enough to hold all his wives.

At last count, Fort Worth funeral director Gregory Spencer said, seven women had telephoned him claiming to be Cooks’ legal widow.

Each of the three women who showed up at the funeral home to view Cooks’ body also wanted her name listed in the obituary as the surviving wife.

Cooks, 62, died when he was struck by a car Friday night while crossing a street.

To settle the dispute among the bevy of widows, Spencer said, none was allowed to ride to the cemetery burial service today in the family limousine.

Cooks’ four brothers and seven sisters said they were “fed up” with the widows, adding that they were not sure how many women he had legally married and divorced.
