Duquesne University’s athletic program has been declassified from Division I for the 1986-87 academic year by the NCAA for technical violations of Division I class regulations, a university spokesman said.
“The unclassified status means that none of the varsity sports teams will be eligible for postseason tournaments,” sports information director Nellie King said.
The basketball teams will not be eligible for NCAA tournaments this year but may attend the postseason National Invitation Tournament if invited, King said.
