The State : Raid Nets a Record Haul

Dozens of “career criminals” were arrested and more than $1.5 million in stolen property recovered in a raid that San Jose police called the largest sting operation in the city’s history. Police Chief Joseph McNamara said the operation lasted seven months and resulted in 117 suspects being taken into custody on charges ranging from burglary to auto theft to forgery. Complaints have been filed against 37 other people, he said. “The people we are taking off the street today are responsible for an enormous amount of crime,” he said, adding that the sting “has recovered more money in value of stolen goods than ever before.” Among the items recovered were 80 sports cars, 60 guns, 205 credit cards, a specially equipped van for paraplegics and a truck containing stolen furniture.
