The Navy issued a statewide alert Friday for a missing sailor who has not been seen or heard from since she left her ship nearly a month ago to attend a concert in Los Angeles, authorities said.

Naval officials and police fear that Petty Officer 3rd Class Tammy Leigh Morrison, 21, may have met with foul play since she left the guided missile cruiser Norton Sound on Aug. 3 to meet a companion and attend a concert at the Universal Amphitheater. The warship is based at Port Hueneme.

Morrison, who was an internal communications technician for the Navy, drove from Port Hueneme in her car but reportedly never arrived at the Universal City concert, Police Sgt. Dennis Fitzgerald said. Her car has not been located.

Fitzgerald said naval authorities have officially listed her as being absent without leave but have also expressed fear that she may have been a victim of foul play.

He said naval authorities alerted law enforcement agencies statewide to watch for the missing sailor.

Morrison took no personal belongings with her, indicating that she intended to return to the ship after the concert, Fitzgerald said.

Navy Lt. Lowell McClintock, public affairs officer aboard the Norton Sound, said Morrison was off duty when she left but was scheduled to report back to the ship the next day. He added that her record of service indicates that it is unlikely she would deliberately avoid her naval duties.
