The Ventura County Gulls won twice Friday to increase their winning streak to seven games as they embarked upon the final series of their existence.

Jim Bishop’s run-scoring single off the glove of Palm Springs third baseman Dario Nunez in the eighth inning gave the Gulls a 2-1 victory in the nightcap after they won the completion of Thursday’s suspended game, 6-5.

The Gulls’ final game in Ventura Thursday was suspended because of darkness with the teams tied, 5-5, after 11 innings.

On Friday, Geronimo Berroa’s sacrifice fly in the bottom of 12th inning scored Eric Yelding with the winning run.

Yelding singled to left to begin the inning and went to second on Santiago Garcia’s single. Garcia was then forced at second on a Luis Reyna grounder, with Yelding going to third.

Berroa’s sacrifice came off losing pitcher Barry Dacus (10-10). Elvis Ciprian (3-6) picked up the win.

In the regularly scheduled game, the Gulls scored twice in the eighth to wipe out a 1-0 deficit.

An RBI single by Berroa followed a leadoff walk by Garcia and a single by Reyna and tied the game. Reyna was then thrown out at the plate when he tried to score on a fly ball to left field by Mike Jones.

Bishop’s game-winning hit followed a walk by Darryl Landrum.

Dave Walsh picked up the victory in relief of starter Mark Dickman, who walked four in only 1 innings, and Mike Hogan. Walsh worked the final three innings, giving up two hits and walking one.
