San Diego police are investigating the killing of a 27-year-old East San Diego man who was shot in the chest Sunday evening in the midst of a crowd of people reportedly gathered on a Southeast San Diego athletic field.
The San Diego County coroner’s office identified the man as Floyd Williams, a resident of 44th Street. A coroner’s spokesman said Williams died at Mercy Hospital at 8:39 p.m., about one hour after he was shot on a sports field on South 45th Street.
Police Sgt. David Jones said there are no suspects.
