Two Van Nuys men have been arrested in connection with the bludgeoning death of a transient after an argument in a Van Nuys parking lot, Los Angeles police said Thursday.

Arrested Wednesday night at their apartments were Jesse Silva, 21, and Sergio Vega, 26.

Patrol officers on July 31 quelled a midnight argument in a parking lot at Fulton Avenue and Victory Boulevard involving Silva, Vega and a third man, Joseph McNichols, Detective Hugh Despain said.

Police received a second disturbance call at 1:30 a.m. and found McNichols, 22, a transient living in the Van Nuys area, face down. Part of his skull was caved in, Despain said.

McNichols, who had been attacked with a chunk of loose concrete, was taken to St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, where he died Aug. 10 from the head injuries, Despain said.
