Edward Bennett Williams, owner of the Baltimore Orioles, confirmed that Earl Weaver will not manage the club in 1987.
Commenting on Weaver’s previous announcement that he wouldn’t return as manager, Williams said: “We accepted his decision then, and we will accept it now. We told him we were not going to try to persuade him to come back.”
Williams said Weaver would manage the club through the remainder of the 1986 season, and that a new manager would be named shortly after the season ends. Until then, he said, there would be no further comment on the matter.
