Cruising Has a New Look in Seal Beach
Scores of Seal Beach residents were startled Friday by the sight of an 80-foot, 50-ton sea cruiser coming down the street.
The new Blue Dolphin was transported two miles from Hill’s Marine, where it had been built, to Anaheim Landing for its launching. The route traversed four city streets, including busy West 6th Street and Seal Beach Boulevard.
Seal Beach Police Sgt. Ross Smith said the move began at 7 a.m. and the craft was safely delivered to the landing shortly before 4 p.m.
“We had to (take) seven cars off the route, but other than that it was no problem at all. There were no traffic problems,” Smith said.
The only delay occurred when Pacific Bell workmen were called to remove a telephone cable from the route to allow the ship to pass under, Smith added.
Owned by Marine Cruise Line of Marina del Rey, the $1-million vessel is due to arrive at home port today.
Carrie Winston, a spokeswoman for the cruise line, said the vessel will dock at Fishermen’s Village in Marina del Rey and will be used by the company for charter cruises and fund-raising events.
