Tennis Roundup : Graf Reaches Pan Pacific Singles Final

Steffi Graf of West Germany beat Catherine Tanvier of France, 6-4, 6-1, Saturday to move into the singles final of the $300,000 Pan Pacific tennis tournament at Tokyo.

In today’s championship match, the top-seeded Graf will meet defending champion Manuela Maleeva of Bulgaria, who beat Bettina Bunge of Monaco, 6-3, 5-7, 6-2.

At Stuttgart, West Germany, 19-year-old Jonas Svensson of Sweden upset the world’s No. 10 player, top-seeded Andres Gomez of Ecuador, 6-3, 7-6, to advance to the final of the $188,250 Mercedes Cup Nabisco Grand Prix tournament. Svensson will Argentina’s Martin Jaite, who defeated Ulf Stenland of Sweden, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3.

At Geneva, Switzerland, Frenchmen Henri Leconte and Thierry Tulasne each posted straight-set victories over unseeded Argentine opponents to move into the final of the $200,000 Martini Open tournament.

Leconte, seeded No. 1 and ranked ninth in the world, easily downed 27-year-old Eduardo Bengoechea, 6-4, 6-3. Second-seeded Tulasne needed only 65 minutes to beat Christian Miniussi, 6-2, 6-0.
