About 6,500 people walked a 6.2-mile route through the streets of Hollywood in the second annual AIDS Walkathon that raised $1 million to fight the fatal disease, a spokesman for the event said. The money came from about 49,000 sponsors of the walkers, walkathon co-producer Craig Miller said. The actual dollars raised by the walkers was $965,000, Miller said, explaining that the remaining $35,000--bringing the total to $1 million--came from Leonard Peterson, a member of the board of directors of AIDS Project-Los Angeles, sponsors of the event.
