Polish rider Bruno Wojtinek won the 124-mile fifth leg of the Tour de L’Avenir of European Communities cycling race at Vitoria, Spain, while American Roy Knickman remained the overall leader.
Wojtinek captured the leg from Palencia on a finish sprint involving all 129 riders in the race. He was clocked in 4:26:18. Second was Spain’s Miguel Indurian, followed by Markus Eberli of Switzerland.
Knickman, riding for a French team, topped the overall standings with 16:22:03 followed by Spain’s Enrique Carrera 4:36 behind and France’s Roland Leclerc 6:27 behind.
