Fire Ruins Barstow McDonald’s

Share

A McDonald’s restaurant, long popular with desert travelers through Barstow, was destroyed by fire early this morning after a customer’s car careened into the side of the wood-framed building and burst into flames. Police said there were no injuries.

“The only thing left standing with regard to the restaurant is the walls,” said Barstow Police Sgt. Lee Gibson. The two-story restaurant was once considered the largest volume McDonald’s restaurant in the nation. The blaze disrupted traffic on both Interstate 15 and Interstate 40 for much of the morning. “We had to shut down the whole east end of town,” Gibson said.
