For a sports fan, there’s nothing like a new quarterback. And so Jack Kemp, the New York congressman, will stay in the East this week to see one.
Kemp had his choice of two places to go. His son Jeff will start for the 49ers at Candlestick Park Sunday. His son Jimmy will start for Churchill High School at Bethesda, Md., Saturday.
Jack said that he has chosen Bethesda.
That will disappoint the new coach of this week’s San Francisco opponents, the New Orleans Saints. He is Jim Mora, who wanted to see the congressman once more. In the days Kemp was a football player at Occidental College, he used to room with Mora.
Mora once said that he can beat any son of a Kemp, but he hasn’t said it lately.
