Irvine : Teacher Released After Dropping of Sex Charges
A high school teacher arrested earlier this week on suspicion of attempted rape and sexual assault has been released from custody after the charges were dropped, police said Thursday.
The district attorney’s office decided that there was insufficient evidence to prosecute Thomas Lawrence Mikalson, 25, of Huntington Beach, according to Irvine Police Sgt. Dick Bowman.
Mikalson, a second-year science teacher at Cerritos High School, was arrested after an 18-year-old La Mirada woman told police that she had been attacked when she went with Mikalson to an apartment on the UC Irvine campus Sept. 2.
