Scott Has Even Less Support Than Valenzuela
As a die-hard Dodger fan (and that’s not easy this year!), and a Latino, even I am sick of your writers’ continual push for Fernando Valenzuela and the Cy Young Award this year.
I’d love to see him get it but not at the expense of a young man much, much more deserving. Mike Scott of the league-leading Houston Astros has been the best pitcher in the National League this season.
Scott beats Fernando in practically all departments. He leads the entire league in ERA (the best stat in measuring a pitcher’s worth), innings pitched and strikeouts. His ERA of 2.25 is so much better than Fernando’s 3.06 that any comparison should stop right there. The only inferior mark is his overall record, but that’s just due to even less support than Fernando has gotten.
