Apartment House Manager Is Shot in Tenant Dispute

A Burbank apartment house manager was shot in the back Saturday during a dispute with a tenant who was angry over the changing of locks in the building, Burbank police reported.

The manager, in his 30s, was not identified. He was shot once with a small-caliber pistol at an apartment complex in the 600 block of East Cypress Avenue, Sgt. Mike Keeffe said. The victim was reported in serious condition after surgery at St. Joseph Medical Center.

A man and a woman were being held by police, but investigators would not reveal details of the shooting because, they said, the primary suspect was still at large late Saturday night.

Keeffe said the shooting “appeared to be a conspiracy-type thing that had to do with changing the locks on an apartment.” He said the manager was shot even though he gave the tenant keys to the new lock.
