St. Genevieve 21, Village Christian 9--St. Genevieve intercepted three passes, and returned one for a 28-yard touchdown, as the Valiants beat Village Christian in a nonleague game at Kennedy High.
Frank Aguirre opened the scoring late in the first quarter, intercepting at the Village Christian 28 returning it for a 7-0 lead.
In the second quarter, quarterback Dion Contreras threw a 20-yard touchdown to Chad Russell to give the Valiants, ranked seventh in the Southern Section Desert Mountain Conference poll, a 14-0 cushion.
Village Christian defensive back Tyler Victor picked off two passes in the third quarter to keep the Crusaders close. His second theft set up Christopher Johnson’s eight-yard scoring pass to Greg Lloyd. St. Genevieve blocked the ensuing point-after attempt.
Village Christian (1-1) closed the margin to 14-9 later in the third quarter when Alex Hepburn kicked a 45-yard field goal.
Glen Yrigoyen, who led St. Genevieve with 71 yards on 14 carries, capped the scoring with 14 seconds left on an eight-yard run.
St. Genevieve (2-0) allowed Village Christian only 34 yards.
