Santa Ana : Man and His 6 Children Escape Fire Unharmed
A single parent and his six children escaped harm, but a firefighter was slightly injured in an apartment blaze Sunday, fire officials said.
Fire Department Battalion Chief Wayne Bowman said Firefighter Thom Rivas, 32, was treated by an emergency doctor at the scene for a head cut.
Bowman said Chamroeun Phok, 40, and his children were evacuated from the burning townhouse-style apartment in the 1000 block of East Bishop Street without harm.
Five Fire Department units responded to the blaze, and it was brought under control within 12 minutes. The apartment is part of a complex of four, but the fire was contained to the one unit, he said.
“The fire started in an upstairs bedroom, but the cause hasn’t been determined and is still being investigated,” Bowman said.
Damage was estimated at $50,000 to the structure and $5,000 to the contents, he said.
