An offshore earthquake described by seismologists as an aftershock of a July 13 quake jarred residents awake throughout San Diego County, but there were no reports of injuries or damage. The quake registered 4.2 on the Richter scale and struck at 2:52 a.m., a Caltech spokesman said. It was centered in the Pacific about 27 miles southwest of Oceanside. The July quake was centered about 28 miles southwest of Oceanside and registered 5.3. Oceanside is about 75 miles southeast of Los Angeles.
