Green Bay Packers Take a Quick Look at Flutie

Share

Doug Flutie had a half-hour tryout with the Green Bay Packers Tuesday, and Coach Forrest Gregg, asked what he thought of Flutie’s performance, said, “Interesting.”

Flutie says that he wants to find a spot in the National Football League as soon as possible. The former Heisman Trophy winner is signed to a personal services contract with Donald Trump, owner of the New Jersey Generals of the United States Football league. But Flutie said an agreement was being worked out with Trump that would allow him to play in the NFL this season.

The Rams hold Flutie’s NFL rights, but they recently obtained rookie Jim Everett from the Houston Oilers, making Flutie’s rights expendable.

Flutie’s Boston-based agent, Bob Woolf, said that the Rams had granted permission for Flutie to talk with other NFL teams.

The Packers also gave a tryout to Chuck Fusina, former quarterback with the USFL’s Philadelphia-Baltimore Stars.
