Drinking Beer Doesn’t Have to Be a Problem
So former football great Bubba Smith has quit making beer commercials because he’s concerned that it influences young people to drink beer. Beautiful. After pocketing thousands of bucks the past several years pushing beer, Smith’s conscience now bothers him. Smith is red-dogging the entire beer industry by his ill-advised utterances.
What about all the people who have been imbibing for decades who have never had a problem handling the good golden brew? After finishing a tough 10K run or an exhausting racquetball match, there’s nothing more refreshing and enjoyable then slamming down two or three cold ones. This doesn’t mean a person has to get blotto on the stuff and then get behind the wheel of a car and go crash into someone. Those youngsters who literally believe Smith’s sermon will never experience the exquisite pleasure beer drinking offers.
No, I have no association with the beer industry other than being a moderate and appreciative customer for over 30 years. Despite Bubba’s lofty reprobations, millions of good people will continue to enjoy sucking up the tasty beverage with no ill effects. Indeed, the American Medical Assn. recently said drinking a couple of beers a day can have salutary and salubrious effects. What about that, Bubba?
