Major league baseball attracted more than 47 million fans for the 1986 regular season, breaking the attendance record for the eighth time in the last 10 full seasons. All 26 teams drew more than 1 million for the first time in history, attracting a total 47,500,347 fans. That established an average attendance record of 23,103.

The National and American leagues also set single-season attendance records, with the NL drawing 22,328,187 for an average of 23,578, and the AL attracting 25,172,160 for an average of 22,698.
