Police Say Shot in Face Killed Man

A 19-year-old man was found dead in his apartment, the victim of a gunshot wound to the face, police said Tuesday.
Costa Mesa Police Sgt. Dennis Cost said investigators initially believed Genaro Montillo might have shot himself--either intentionally or accidentally--shortly before his body was found after 6 p.m. Sunday. A .380-caliber handgun was found near Montillo’s body, Cost said, leading detectives to believe that he had used the weapon on himself.
However, Cost said, an autopsy and further investigation subsequently revealed that Montillo was shot following an argument with one of several people with whom he shares an apartment in the 2000 block of Maple Avenue.
Cost said investigators are seeking all of the victim’s roommates for questioning but have been unable to locate any of them.
