Takehiko Kobauawaka and 40-year-old Koji Yamamoto hit consecutive home runs off Osamu Higashio in the bottom of the ninth inning, and the Hiroshima Toyo Carp and Seibu Lions played to a 2-2, 14 inning tie in the opener of the Japan Series at Hiroshima.
In Japan, no extra inning may start after 4 1/2 hours of play in the afternoon or 3 1/2 hours at night.
Yamamoto, who has hit 536 home runs in his 18-year career, is retiring at the end of the series.
