Guilty Plea Entered in 1984 Sex Case

Share

A Highland Park man pleaded guilty Tuesday to a charge of attempted sodomy stemming from a 1984 attack on a North Hollywood woman in her apartment.

The man, Robert Edward Sias, 31, once was suspected of being the “foul-smelling rapist” responsible for a string of attacks in the East San Fernando Valley in 1984. Prosecutors found insufficient evidence to charge Sias in those attacks.

Sias was arrested Oct. 14, 1984, and charged with attempted sodomy and two related charges in an incident two days earlier. He also was charged with auto theft after police found that the car he was driving was stolen.

Sias pleaded guilty to auto theft and attempted sodomy, and the other sex counts will be dismissed, Deputy Dist. Atty. Kenneth A. Loveman said.

Under a plea bargain, Sias will receive eight years in prison when he is sentenced Nov. 18 by San Fernando Superior Court Judge Ronald S. W. Lew, Loveman said.
