Knicks Finish Strong to Beat Lakers in an Exhibition Game at New York

Louis Orr scored 7 of his 14 points in the first six minutes of the fourth quarter, and McKinley Singleton added 9 points in the period to lead the New York Knicks to a 110-101 victory over the Lakers in a National Basketball Assn. exhibition game Tuesday night.

The loss was the first in five exhibition games for the Lakers.

Orr, sinking a baseline jumper and five free throws, helped the Knicks outscore the Lakers, 18-6, during the first half of the fourth quarter, breaking open a tight game and giving New York a 94-78 lead with 6:01 remaining.

The Knicks, ahead only 76-72 after three quarters, held the Lakers scoreless in the fourth period until Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s hook shot at the 8:50 mark.

Patrick Ewing led the Knicks with 21 points, and Pat Cummings added 17.

James Worthy scored 16 of his game-high 24 points in the first half. A.C. Green and Magic Johnson each had 15 points for the Lakers.
