WFC Roundup : CS Sacramento Outslugs Southern Utah State, 48-31

Fullback Rob Harrison rushed for a conference-record 268 yards and scored three touchdowns to lead Cal State Sacramento to a 48-31 victory over Southern Utah State College in a Western Football Conference game Saturday at Cedar City, Utah.

Southern Utah scored touchdowns on its first two possessions, but couldn’t hold the lead. A 50-yard field goal by Sacramento’s Matt Nilsson with one second left in the first half tied the score, 17-17.

Two of Harrison’s touchdown runs, one of 39 yards and the other 65, along with a 49-yard Nilsson field goal, gave Sacramento a 34-17 lead in the third quarter.

Southern Utah (6-3, 1-3) came within 10 points twice in the second half, only to see Sacramento (4-2-1, 3-0) answer with touchdowns each time to keep the game out of reach.

Don Hair of Sacramento rushed for 116 yards and Southern Utah’s Kyle Wilson had 106 as the teams combined for more than 1,000 yards in total offense.

Santa Clara 27, San Francisco State 24--Quarterback Greg Calcagno passed for 168 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Broncos to the nonconference victory at Santa Clara.

Santa Clara led at halftime, 10-6, and then increased the margin to 24-9 before San Francisco (0-7) made a late comeback.

The Broncos (3-4) also were led by running back Matt Shaw, who carried 20 times for 83 yards.

Brian Letofsky, San Francisco’s backup quarterback, completed 13 of 27 throws for 239 yards and a touchdown.
