Anaheim : Electrical Problem Gets Blame for Fire

An “electrical malfunction” in the attic of a newly renovated shopping center appears to have triggered a blaze that caused an estimated $2.25 million in property damage, a Fire Department spokeswoman said Monday.

Jill Skinner said investigators have determined that the fire, which broke out late Saturday night, was “accidental, not intentionally set.”

But “to pinpoint an exact cause is tough,” she added, “because there’s nothing left to look at.”

The blaze erupted at 11:45 p.m. Saturday at the shopping center in the 2100 block of East Lincoln Avenue and burned for more than an hour before 70 firefighters from the Anaheim, Garden Grove and Fullerton Fire departments controlled it.

Six shops were totally gutted, and others were severely damaged by smoke, fire officials said.
