Chicago Rallies in Overtime to Beat the Sockers in Exhibition Match, 5-4
Frank Klopas scored an unassisted goal 10:44 into overtime to give Chicago a 5-4 exhibition victory over the defending Major Indoor Soccer League champion San Diego Sockers in front of 5,459 in Market Square Arena at Indianapolis.
The Sockers had a 4-1 halftime lead, but Chicago rallied in the fourth period, scoring twice in a 26-second span to tie the game at 4-4. Karl-Heinz Granitza and Batata scored to force the overtime.
Raffalae Routolo scored two goals to lead the Sockers. Jean Willrich and Julie Veee each scored one in the exhibition opener for San Diego. The teams meet again tonight in Riverfront Coliseum at Cincinnati.
