Arvidas Sabonis, 7-1 center for the Soviet national basketball team, has an injured heel and will not be in the United States for at least the first two games of a 14-game tour, which began Tuesday night in Albany, N.Y.
Sabonis, a first-round draft choice last spring of the Portland Trail Blazers, also will miss Thursday night’s game in Sacramento against Athletes in Action.
Bill Wall, executive director of the Amateur Basketball Assn. of the United States, said Sabonis may join the team for Saturday night’s game in San Diego’s Sports Arena against Athletes in Action. The Soviets, runners-up to the United States in last summer’s world championships, meet AIA again Monday night at the Forum.
