A mistrial was declared in the retrial of a man charged with murdering his 4-year-old son by stuffing him in a suitcase, where he suffocated. Pasadena Superior Court Judge Coleman Swart made the decision after jurors considering the case of Michael F. Corrigan announced they were hopelessly deadlocked. Prosecutors said they would retry the case. Corrigan, 35, is accused of murdering his son, James, whose body was found in a suitcase in the family’s Burbank home in April, 1982. The defendant maintained that his son died after accidentally being trapped inside the suitcase while playing with his younger sister. During his first trial, Corr1768382830endangering and intentionally inflicting great bodily harm. The state Supreme Court, however, overturned the conviction last year.
