San Diego Volleyball Roundup : UC Santa Barbara Sweeps Aztecs

SAN DIEGO — UC Santa Barbara breezed to a three-set victory over San Diego State Wednesday night at Peterson Gym, beating the Aztecs, 15-10, 15-11, 15-5, in 1 hour, 28 minutes.
San Diego State (33-3, 10-3), the NCAA Division I top-ranked team, was beaten statistically in every category by 10th-ranked UCSB.
Charlotte Mitchell (16 kills), Yami Menendez (14) and Shari Rodgers (13) paced UCSB (19-8, 8-4). SDSU fell to 33-3, 10-3 in the Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. UCLA will play at SDSU at 7:30 Wednesday night.
UC San Diego beat Cal State Los Angeles, 15-11, 11-15, 15-8, 15-8, in a nonconference match at Triton Gym.
UCSD (32-6) had 50 assists from setter Kim Stonecipher and 14 kills from outside hitter Carol Lipson. Tina Lei had 15 kills for Cal State L.A.
Azusa Pacific will play at UCSD at 7:30 Friday night.
Claudia Johnson had 21 kills to lead USIU to a 15-9, 14-16, 15-6, 15-8 win over Cal State Fullerton at Torry Pines High School. Anita Rodriguez added 17 kills for USIU (16-12). Fullerton fell to 6-23.
