A 50-foot private power yacht, found half sunk and drifting with no one aboard off South Laguna on Thursday, was towed Friday to an anchorage in Dana Point Harbor while the Sheriff’s Department continued an investigation.
Sheriff’s Lt. Robert Rivas said it is believed that the boat was stolen from its slip in the harbor, possibly on Wednesday, then vandalized and stripped of its electronic gear about a mile offshore. He added that someone apparently had tried to sink the boat.
With the help of huge flotation balloons and a salvage barge, the $125,000 yacht Bravado was maneuvered on to an even keel, although still well below its normal waterline, before being towed back to the harbor.
The registered owner, Roger Allen Cumin of San Clemente, was said to be on a hunting trip in Washington state.
Rivas said there has been no estimate of damages or value of missing equipment.
