Officials from Louisiana State University and Ole Miss are expected to appear before the NCAA Committee on Infractions this month to discuss reported rules violations.

The meeting will be held in Kansas City on Nov. 14-17, according to a spokesman for the National Collegiate Athletic Assn.

“They’re finalizing the official inquiry and, assuming we get it in time, it could be mid-November when we meet with them,” said LSU Chancellor James Wharton.

Wharton said he had not recieved a letter of official inquiry from the NCAA, the second stage of the investigative process.

LSU’s basketball program has been under an preliminary investigation for about 30 months.

The probe at Ole Miss centered on the football program, reportedly on the recruiting of J. R. Ambrose, a standout wide receiver.

David Berst, director of legislative services for the NCAA, would not comment on specific aspects of the nvestigation.

“Before any school meets with the Committee on Infractions, they have to be notified of an official inquiry,” Brest said.

“They also have to notify the committee in writing their response to the charges before they appear at the meeting.

“Aprroximately two weeks later (after the meeting), the school will be notified of the committtee’s ruling,” he said.

Ole Miss Chancellor Gerald Turner confirmed earlier this week that the school had been told to complete its in-house investigation and forward the results to the NCAA by Nov. 10.
