Hundreds of sympathetic registered nurses rallied outside Kaiser Permanente medical facilities in Sacaramento, San Francisco, Oakland and Santa Clara as the Northern California strike by more than 9,000 hospital workers went into its second week. “We wanted to get the message out that it is OK for nurses to honor the picket lines,” said Mary Del Rosario, an RN and member of the California Nurses Assn. Late last week the National Labor Relations Board charged the association, which is not on strike, with engaging in an “unfair labor practice” for its actions in support of striking Kaiser workers of the Service Employees International Union.
