The World Boxing Assn. threatened to strip Marvelous Marvin Hagler of his middleweight championship if he fights Sugar Ray Leonard in an unauthorized title bout. Hagler is scheduled to defend his title against Leonard April 6 at Las Vegas.
Leonard, a former welterweight and junior middleweight champion, has been inactive since 1982 and is not ranked by the WBA. The 12-round Hagler-Leonard bout has been sanctioned only by the World Boxing Council.
