Leon Burtnett resigned as football coach at Purdue, effective at the end of the season. The Boilermakers have a 2-6 record and are 1-4 in the Big Ten.

Burtnett, 43, said he would remain at Purdue indefinitely, working under Athletic Director George King. Purdue extended his contract after the 1984 season, and he has four years remaining on it. Burtnett’s record at Purdue is 20-32-1 in five seasons.
