San Clemente : Woman Claims She Saw Mountain Lion in Yard

Police said Saturday they have received no further reports of a mountain lion since it was reported seen in the driveway of a house Tuesday night.

Beverly Dalsimer told an officer Saturday that a few days earlier, she was walking her terrier about 10 p.m. when she came upon the mountain lion in front of a neighbor’s home.

Dalsimer said she reported the encounter to the city’s animal shelter but didn’t call police because she didn’t think they would be interested.

“I think people should be alerted because, after all, we’re moving into their territory,” she said. She said she hopes that people will not begin killing mountain lions out of fear.

A police dispatcher said there had been some local reports of a mountain lion about a month ago, but in remote areas. The only reports of wild animals wandering into the city’s residential areas have involved coyotes and skunks, police said.
