Montana Saloons
As a former resident of Butte, Mont., I enjoyed David Lamb’s article on Montana saloons (Oct. 12). My grandfather was the original owner of the Atlantic Saloon mentioned in the article and which boasted the longest bar west of the Mississippi. Yes, the third drink was always on the house, as Lamb discovered. The Atlantic was famous, too, for its free lunch.
Traveling to Europe twice a year, and seasick all the way, grandfather selected the fine sausages and cheeses as well as liquors he imported and served at the Atlantic.
