Unbeaten welterweight boxer Mark Breland extended his winning streak to 16 by stopping Orlando Orozco of Venezuela at 1:46 of the second round in Madison Square Garden’s Felt Forum at New York.

Breland, a 1984 Olympic champion who is currently ranked second by the World Boxing Assn., had little trouble in the scheduled 10-round bout. Orozco, who took the fight after both Sanford Ricks of Newark, N.J., and Tomas Garcia of Harlingen, Tex., pulled out, fell to 12-6-1.

The 6-foot 2-inch Breland, who weighed 149 pounds, knocked down Orozco with a right to the head in the second round. Orozco, 5-8 and 145, took a seven-count, and when he remained wobbly, referee John Colan ended the fight. It was the 11th knockout for Breland, who is from New York.
