The Pacific 10 Conference announced Thursday it will allow one of its schools to play a Big Ten team in the 1987 Sunkist Fiesta Bowl.

Pac-10 Commissioner Thomas Hansen said the presidents of the league’s schools voted on the matter Wednesday. They agreed “on a one-time basis” to suspend the Pac-10’s exclusivity rule limiting its annual postseason matchup with the Big Ten to the Rose Bowl.

Hansen said he expects to hear from the Big Ten, which would not comment on the matter, by the end of the week. The possible Fiesta Bowl matchup would pair the loser of the Ohio State-Michigan game against the second-place team in the Pac-10.
