Community College Roundup : Penner Ties Rustler Scoring Record

Sophomore Pat Penner tied the Golden West College single-season scoring record Thursday as the Rustlers defeated Fullerton, 3-1, in a South Coast Conference soccer match at Fullerton.

Penner scored once to give him 27 goals and tie the record set by John Sandoval and Abel Dorado in 1976. Penner scored 25 goals last season and holds the Golden West career scoring record of 52.

Andy Laugh and Sean VanHemelrych scored the other goals for the Rustlers (5-4-1 in conference, 10-7-1 overall). Marc Merino scored for the Hornets (4-5-1, 6-7-3).

In women’s South Coast Conference soccer:

El Camino 2, Golden West 1--Shannon Agustine scored her 23rd goal as the Rustlers (7-2-2, 12-4-2) lost at Huntington Beach. The victory moved the Warriors into a second-place tie with Golden West. Orange Coast won the championship.

In women’s South Coast Conference volleyball:

Golden West 3, Pasadena City 0--Susie Turner had nine kills and Nicole Jackson five to lead the Rustlers (7-3, 10-3) to a 15-2, 15-6, 15-13 victory over the Lancers (5-5, 8-5) at Huntington Beach.

In women’s Orange Empire Conference volleyball:

Orange Coast 3, Saddleback 0--Ann Javage had 12 kills as the Pirates (8-0, 12-2) defeated the Gauchos (0-8, 1-13), 15-2, 15-1, 15-0 at Costa Mesa.
