Newport Center Expansion
Many residents of Newport Beach are not aware of the effort that is going into promoting expansion of Newport Center. I fear they do not understand that we will be asked to vote on an amendment to the existing General Plan so that more high-rises, more hotels and more commercial development can be built.
They can be easily misled by expensive full-page ads by some traffic engineer (paid by the Irvine Co.) who has a vested interest in expansion, as do the promoters of “Citizens for a Better Newport.” Better for business, perhaps, but a sad day for residents.
When our traffic problems are solved, there will be ample time to develop all the undeveloped land in our city in a way that can be pleasing to all of us, both in the residential and business communities.
