Local News in Brief : Overdose Suspected in Acton Mystery Death

Share

An unidentified woman whose nude body was found alongside a remote mountain road near Acton probably died of a drug overdose, authorities said Sunday.

The body was discovered about 12:30 p.m. Saturday by a horseback rider near Escondido Canyon Road, one mile south of Red Rover Mine Road, in the Angeles National Forest, Los Angeles County sheriff’s spokesman Carl Deeley said.

A preliminary autopsy failed to determine the exact cause of the woman’s death because her body was badly decomposed, Deeley said. Puncture marks on the woman’s arms led investigators to speculate that she died of a drug overdose elsewhere and that her body was dumped down the embankment where she was found, he said.

Authorities have not determined the woman’s identity, her approximate age or when she died, Deeley said.
